Description
The Governance Committee is responsible for supporting an effective and accountable Board of Directors by overseeing the organization’s governance structure, policies, and leadership development. The committee works to ensure the Board operates ethically, follows sound and impactful practices in nonprofit governance, and remains aligned with the organization’s mission and bylaws. Key responsibilities include reviewing and recommending updates to governance policies, recruiting and vetting qualified Board members, supporting Board orientation and ongoing development, and leading processes that evaluate Board performance and engagement. The committee also manages nominations for Board leadership, recommends committee assignments, oversees conflict of interest and ethics policies, and administers the process for identifying, vetting, and recommending qualified organizations for Membership. Through these efforts, the Governance Committee helps ensure the Board is well-structured, informed, and capable of providing leadership and oversight.
