What is PIT?

A Point-In-Time, or PIT, is a statistically reliable, unduplicated count of people experiencing homelessness during a designated one-night period.  Wisconsin conducts this count twice per year in January and July.

The overnights counts occur the 4th Wednesday of January and July into the next morning. Volunteers cannot starting before 11pm on that Wednesday and must complete the count by 5am the following morning.

A Point-In-Time, or PIT, is a statistically reliable, unduplicated count of people experiencing homelessness during a designated one-night period.  Wisconsin conducts this count twice per year in January and July.

This count is intended to include persons that are homeless and are staying in emergency shelters, transitional housing, safe havens for the homeless, domestic violence shelters, or who are unsheltered living on the street, or any other place not meant for human habitation.

All across the state of Wisconsin and across the country, the PIT is conducted by volunteers.
